The history of Mirabella

Mirabella was founded in 1979 by a group of professionals from Brescia with a passion for viticulture and oenology. It was among the first wineries in Franciacorta to believe in the uniqueness of its territory and in the potential of the ‘Franciacorta’ name, which is increasingly establishing itself as a symbol of Made in Italy around the world.

It was the visionary oenologist Teresio Schiavi, together with his friend Giacomo Cavalli, who laid the ‘first stone’ of the Mirabella Winery in the municipality of Paderno Franciacorta, inside a former silk mill. From then until today, he has overseen production, supported by his colleague Bracchi and his sons Alessandro and Alberto.

Mirabella is the first vineyard planted by the winery, which produced its inaugural harvest in 1981 and remains to this day the company’s only CRU (“single vineyard”). It is located on the hills of Paderno Franciacorta, the town that was home to the winery until 1982, when it was moved to Rodengo Saiano.

Mirabella encompasses 45 hectares of vineyards, all registered under the Franciacorta DOCG, located in the central-eastern area of Franciacorta across the municipalities of Paderno Franciacorta, Passirano, Bornato and Provaglio d’Iseo. The vineyards lie on morainic soils of medium texture, fresh and well-drained.

Vigneti biologici

Mirabella has always devoted great attention and resources to the protection, sustainability and development of the territory and of Franciacortaover the years, implementing carefully integrated pest management in the vineyards and favouring organic methods while envisaging targeted and controlled interventions where necessary, together with constant multi-residual analyses on the wines. 100% energy from renewable sources has been used (COFER certification 2012/06/1403281) since 2012, and there has been an almost total elimination of allergens and preservatives from all products, culminating in the birth of Demetra Brut Nature with no added sulphites, sulphites, the first Franciacorta with no allergens and no added sulphites. The naturally produced sulphites are kept below the declaration level, with the utmost respect for nature and the consumer.

Excelling in quality, a hallmark.

Franciacorta with great personality, an expression of typicality and nature: this is the “Mirabella style”. The Franciacorta method is the art of expertise in the classic method and we combine the viticulture and experience of the wine-grower with the use of the most modern technologies. Moreover, to give all our Franciacorta wines those characteristics that make them excel not only in sustainability but, above all, in quality, we are guided by choices that are aimed at always offering something unique and superior.

The use of Pinot Bianco, a rarity in Franciacorta, is one of our distinguishing features: we appreciate it for the freshness, elegance and finesse it brings. It is the most Italian of our grape varieties and, in light of recent climate changes, has proven to be the most adaptable and high-performing.
